Here's something we've been anticipating since we launched Subspace Communique. That's right woodchuck chuckers, TNG has officially hit Blu-ray with the first released remastered episodes. After seeing the excellent work that was put into the TOS remasters, we hoped that CBS would go forth and make the Enterprise-D shine in all of it's 1080p glory. Well that day is finally here with the release of Star Trek: The Next Generation - Next Level [Blu-ray]. Now granted, this is a sampler disc with only 3 episodes, but it's our first chance to see what's in-store for the entire series in hi-def. Just like TOS remasterd, Mike & Denise Okuda worked closely with CBS on this project and hopefully by the year's end, we'll see the first full season release of Star Trek: The Next Generation: Remastered.

It turns out that the four test episodes that are being worked on include "Encounter At Farpoint 1 & 2", "The Inner Light", & "Sins of the Father". While we were hoping for "Yesterday's Enterprise" those choices will definitely work for us. Trekcore & The Digital Bits are both reporting that the four test episodes could be released this fall and may show up on both Netflix & Epix.

Star Trek: The Next Generation On Blu-ray & Remastered?

The rumor-mill seems to think so. We've been waiting for this since we first got wind of The Original Series being remastered and released in high-def. Since Next Gen was originally shot on film and post production's output for the final episodes were on video, the special effects throughout the series would need to be remastered before the show could ever make it to blu-ray. According to The Digital Bits secret stash of comic-con sources, CBS is indeed working on a remastered version of the series, with a 4 episode demo disc that might be available to fans soon.

'Star Trek" Blu-ray / DVD Release Extravaganza. or: Our Very Own "Shades of Gray".

The new phone books are here, the new phone books are... uh, I mean, the new "Star Trek" 3-disc Blu-ray with Digital Copy is here. So, we went out today for a quick Doctor's appointment and just happened to pick up our prescription at the neighborhood Sam's Club. On the way to the pharmacy, we mysteriously and accidentally fell into the DVD / Blu-ray section and picked up a copy of J.J. Abrams' "Star Trek". None of this was planned of course.

Just about every Trek fan knows about the Star Trek: TOS "two pilot" story. If not, the tale goes that Gene Roddenberry and company created the original pilot "The Cage", starring Jefferey Hunter as Captain Pike, and showed the feature to NBC. NBC then rejected the said pilot as "too cerebral" and ordered another pilot when "Where No Man Has Gone Before" was born.
