The weekend following Valentine’s Day marked the return of the Grand Slam Sci-Fi Summit in Southern California after an absence from the convention circuit for a few years. The event had been a major affair in the sci-fi world, but especially with Star Trek, for nearly twenty years and had been prominently displayed in the Trekkies documentaries and on various media productions.
Despite attendance dropping due to the growing popularity of the Las Vegas Star Trek Convention and a move to different locations (first starting in Pasadena, then Burbank, next to LAX, and then back to Burbank again), the Grand Slam has had a loyal following and ended up having a more intimate feel than many of the other conventions of similar genres with thousands of attendees.
We just got back from a fantastic con in our neck of the woods. That's right earthlings, it's time for the Wizard World Austin Comic Con post convention wrap-up. This was a special Trek centric con, that featured the entire bridge crew from Star Trek: The Next Generation. We've been covering news about Austin CC for the past several months and the show really lived up to the hype.
Day 1 of our live coverage of 2012 BayouCon in Lake Charles, Louisiana. We're looking forward to hanging with all of the Trek fans that have made the pilgrimage the gulf. We'll be delivering live blogging from both days of the event and you can watch the day 2 coverage below.

After a whirlwind of a weekend, we here at Subspace Communique can look back on a fantastically fun and entertaining time at Houston's Comicpalooza. We spent the full three days traipsing the halls of the George R. Brown convention center in downtown Houston and learned a few things about ourselves and about a few guest stars. First off, Richard Hatch loves ribs... We saw the Battlestar Galactica star enjoying (more than once) some of the fine barbecue served in the vender area. Hey, I'm not pointing fingers here, I had my fair share too. Secondly, George Takei still smells fantastic. I passed Mr. Sulu, once again, and he smelled like a fresh spring day. Lastly, we learned that you should never go with a Jaffa to a second location... I'll just leave that there.
